Practical Life
“The exercises of practical life are formative activities, a work of adaptation to the environment. Such adaptation to the environment and efficient functioning therein is the very essence of a useful education.”
— Maria Montessori
The Foundation of Independence
At Garden Montessori School, Practical Life is the heart of our Montessori environment. These purposeful, hands-on activities help children develop independence, confidence, coordination, and a strong sense of belonging within their classroom community.
Practical Life work is rooted in real-life experiences that children recognize and value. Through meaningful tasks, children learn to care for themselves, care for their environment, and interact respectfully with others—skills that form the foundation for lifelong learning.
